"Technology is Progression."? (Spoken Word)

When I was a kid, I loved being outside.
To me, nothing was better than running around under that warm summer sky.
It's kind of sad, actually, how far technology has helped us "advance".
You see, humans evolved from slouching men sitting on treetops,
to slouching men sitting at desks staring at the screens of our thirteen-inch laptops.
But we were told technology would better society.
"TECHNOLOGY IS PROGRESSION." they said.
But actually, I think humanity is starting to take a step back.
Now, I'll take this time to help you understand
just look away from the screens and I'll tell you exactly what I mean.
Okay, take a look outside and tell me,
Where are all the kids at?
"Oh, you mean my son? He's in his room, playing on his iPad."
What happening to playing outside and scraping your knees?
Now its all about that worldwide and getting the most retweets.
But I get it,
I mean, who would want to go outside when you have six-hundred friends online?
But its sad to think that 598 people on that FaceBook friend-list are actually friendless,
and the only two people you talk to are:
your parents.
But even then the only time you talk to them is when you type up words on your iMac so its no surprise that when you're at the dinner table you don't even make eye-contact.
But its okay, they're used to it.
You're always on your phone anyways.
They're just confused as to why you use it to play that Kim K. game instead of calling back that manager at EB Games.
No, what really concerns you is what's on Instagram.
Measuring self-worth by the likes on a pic,
who knew that compliments and love could be dumbed down into one simple;
CLICK.
You see, I think its time to put away the devices and realize what we've become.
Once we turn off the iPhones, iPads, iPods, iMacs, we can change the expression.
Listen, technology ISN'T progression,
Rather, I see it as;
TECHNOLOGY IS REGRESSION
